Het is eerst in december 1921 dat ik een verwijzing vond naar het plaatsen van een kerstboom in een burgerlijke woonplaats.

Aalsterse krijgsgevangen hadden al eerder kennis gemaakt met de traditie van het plaatsen van een kerstboom tijdens hun verplicht verblijf in Duitsland.

- Van den Bergh Clementia, vrouw van Donatus Van Cauwenbergh

Het plaatsen van een kerstboom was nog niet ingeburgerd bij de Aalstenaars, maar wel bij de Duitse inwoners.
